Toyota is recalling over 130,000 Tundra pickup trucks with factory-installed tonneau covers from the 2022 and 2023 model years. Around 130,000 Tundra trucks with factory-installed tonneau covers from the 2022 and 2023 model years are included in the recall.
The carmaker claims that among the recalled trucks, a few could have a flaw that would allow the cover to come off while driving. Owners are instructed to remove the cover independently while they await further instructions. The tonneau cover in question is what Toyota refers to as an authentic truck bed accessory.
Toyota doesn't specifically state the problem's root cause either. In fact, it announced this information before the NHTSA provided any additional information on the incident.
By late March of this year, owners of the implicated automobiles will receive a notification. Toyota advises owners to visit NHTSA to see if their car is affected by the recall even though, as of this writing, there is no information on this recall there. The Toyota Brand Engagement Center's toll-free number is 1-800-331-4331.
Owners of concerned trucks "will be instructed to remove the cover until the fix is ready and executed," according to the business. Toyota says that fix isn't yet ready.
