The Suzuki Spacia Gear is set to receive a fresh update, marking a new chapter for this popular kei car. The latest version retains the compact dimensions and crossover-inspired design of its predecessor but now incorporates a host of new technological features.
Visually, the updated Spacia Gear bears a striking resemblance to the Suzuki Spacia Papa Boku Kitchen concept, which was unveiled at the 2024 Tokyo Auto Salon. Although it maintains some familiar elements, the new Spacia Gear showcases a completely redesigned exterior.
Suzuki has yet to release detailed technical specifications for the new Spacia Gear, with more information to be disclosed at its official launch. However, we can expect it to follow the lead of the regular Spacia, which comes with a mild-hybrid 660cc three-cylinder engine. This engine is available in two versions, producing either 48 horsepower or 80 horsepower. Both versions come with a continuously variable transmission (CVT) and offer options for either two-wheel drive (2WD) or four-wheel drive (4WD).
Distinct from the Spacia and Spacia Custom models, the Spacia Gear features a unique design, including round LED headlights, vertical slits on the grille, and skid plates that give it a miniature Jeep-like appearance. The new design also includes a redesigned front bumper with updated intakes, protective cladding along the sides, roof rails, and a new set of gunmetal gray 15-inch alloy wheels.
Inside, the Spacia Gear's updates are mainly focused on trim and materials. The interior boasts nature-inspired color schemes, water-resistant fabrics, and a durable cargo area cover. Among the new features is an optional heated steering wheel and additional USB ports for convenient charging.
Suzuki will offer a variety of accessories for the new Spacia Gear, allowing owners to personalize their vehicles further. Options will include special decals, a roof rack, a retractable awning, a pet carrier, mosquito nets for the doors, and cushions that can convert the interior into a double bed for camping.
Pricing details for the new Suzuki Spacia Gear will be announced at a later date. In the competitive kei car segment, it will face rivals such as the Mitsubishi Delica Mini and the Daihatsu Fanto Funcross. For those seeking even more ruggedness reminiscent of Jeep models, the Suzuki Hustler Tough Wild, a mechanically related model, offers an additional dose of off-road style and capability.
