Sabine Schmitz, The Queen Of Nürburgring Lives Forever

Nurburgring has recently lost its Queen. Sabine Schmitz, one of the first Women in the Automotive word proved that there are no stops for women. The races couldn’t never beat her, but Cancer did. Now the campaign of making her name immortal is started. Soon maybe we would see her name on one of the Nordschleife corners.

The Change.org petition is the battlefield. Just in one day about 13,000 signatures and counting was obtained. Dale Lomas of the 'Ring focused site Bridge to Gantry created the campaign and posted that as of the 10,000-signature mark the request was "officially on the radar at Nürburgring HQ."

There is not yet confirmed which corner would be named of Schmitz, but there are eight candidates on the list. Lomas has published them in his blog. Since there are many turns at Ring without any names, so there is a wide choice for Sabine.

Sabine Schmitz is very famous among the race lovers and also every one has visited the Nürburgring. Her family owned the Hotel am Tiergarten and its Pistenklause restaurant in the town. She always dreamed of racing, and she was successful this way. In 1996, she became the first woman to take an overall win in the Nürburgring 24 Hours and followed it with another win in 1997. In 1998, she became the first woman to win the VLN Endurance Championship series title.

In 2000s she became one of the BMW Ring Taxi’s drivers. Also, fans were able to experience one lap with the famous track with Schmitz behind the wheel by paying its price. Soon it became very viral and videos speared up online highlighting her skill. And when she was invited to the Top Gear, this fame became international. She coached Jeremy Clarkson about how to set a fast lap in a Jaguar S-Type diesel. In 2016, she became one of the show's hosts.
