Porsche Taycan Outsells The 911 For the First Time

In 2021, Porsche Taycan outsold the classic Porsche 911 flagship. Despite the ongoing epidemic, Porsche's overall sales were at an all-time high for the 12-month period, with electrified models accounting for almost 40% of total deliveries.

While the price gap between the two models is likely to have influenced the outcome, the finding does point to a growing desire for zero-emission vehicles in the luxury and performance classes.

Official sales figures for the year reveal that 41,296 Taycans were sold over the world, compared to 38,464 911s, a difference of almost 7%.

The discrepancy was even more pronounced in Australia, where 531 Taycans were delivered compared to 428 911s, a difference of about 24%.

The popularity of SUVs has also helped the once-struggling sports car manufacturer. The Porsche Macan was the most popular vehicle overall, with 88,362 deliveries globally and 2328 deliveries in Australia. It recently had its second makeover and will have an all-electric spin-off next year.

The Cayenne full-size SUV became Porsche's best-selling model just one year after its introduction in 2004, and it was not surpassed until the smaller and more inexpensive Macan went into full production in 2015.
