Pagani Zonda Unico: A Timeless Supercar Gets a Stunning New Twist

Author: |

The saying goes that the only certainties in life are death and taxes, but perhaps we should add the Pagani Zonda to that list. This iconic supercar, which made its debut in 1999, continues to make waves, with a new version popping up every few years. Even though the Huayra, its successor, was introduced in 2011 and replaced three years ago by the Utopia, the Zonda refuses to fade away. Now, in 2025, Pagani has unveiled yet another version, this time called the Zonda Unico.

As the name suggests, the Zonda Unico is a one-off creation, built specifically for a client who wanted the car to draw inspiration from the Kunlun Mountains, one of Asia’s longest mountain ranges. While this is not an entirely new design, it is an extensively reworked version of an existing Zonda chassis. As with many of Pagani’s bespoke models, this version features an array of unique modifications that make it stand out from the rest of the Zonda lineup. For example, the rear wing has a smaller wing of its own, while the car’s aerodynamics are further enhanced with a towering center fin and an imposing roof scoop, giving it a track-ready appearance.

Though Pagani hasn’t disclosed all the technical specifics, the Zonda Unico appears to have a full carbon fiber body with a mesmerizing blue tint. Several parts are finished in exposed carbon fiber, including the windshield frame, side mirror caps, headlight housings, and various vents. The striking blue accents extend to the center-lock wheels, brake calipers, quad exhaust tips, and the taillight surround, creating a bold and cohesive aesthetic that is bound to turn heads.

The Zonda Unico is a prime example of the adage that "you can teach an old dog new tricks." Despite its design dating back over 26 years, the Zonda still looks as stunning today as it did when the original Zonda C12 was revealed at the 1999 Geneva Motor Show. Power continues to come from an AMG-sourced V-12 engine, likely the 7.3-liter version producing up to 760 horsepower, suggesting that this Zonda Unico is based on the Zonda 760 Roadster. Although we haven’t seen interior images yet, we can’t help but hope it features the classic gated shifter that has become synonymous with the Zonda.

Despite seeing a dozen new iterations of the Zonda in recent years, it’s curious that the Huayra, despite being the newer model, hasn’t generated the same level of excitement. While Pagani produced more Huayras, the Zonda’s timeless appeal seems to have captivated the ultra-wealthy in ways the Huayra hasn’t. Perhaps that’s a mystery only those with deep pockets can fully explain.
