The new Toyota GR86 will come to Australia in the second half of 2022, according to Toyota. Despite early expectations of a local introduction in the coming months, Toyota has stated that the new-generation GR86 sports vehicle would not see showrooms until the second half of 2022.

The new GR86 features a 2.4-liter naturally aspirated boxer four-cylinder engine that produces 231 horsepower and 250 Nm of torque. A six-speed manual or automatic gearbox sends power to the rear wheels. It can sprint from 0 to 100 km/h in 6.3 seconds with this power number.

Other features of the new model, which now bears the Toyota Gazoo Racing (GR) logo, include more aluminum, a redesigned appearance, an updated cabin, and the addition of active safety technologies in automatic vehicles. Inside the cabin, it has a 7.0-inch instrument display and an 8.0-inch touchscreen.

Prices in Australia are yet to be determined, but the new GR86 might cost less than $35,000. The new-generation Subaru BRZ, which has the same underpinnings as the GR 86, starts at $38,990 before on-road costs in Australia.
