The global market for mid-size pickup trucks is experiencing rapid growth, with increasing demand pushing automakers to develop new contenders in order to challenge segment leaders such as the Ford Ranger and Toyota Hilux. South Korea is already represented in this competitive arena with Kia’s recently unveiled Tasman pickup, and now KG Mobility, previously known as SsangYong, is preparing to strengthen its presence as well. The company has ambitious plans to establish the Musso name as a dedicated sub-brand, which will include electric, hybrid, and conventional internal-combustion trucks.
Shortly after revealing the Musso EV, KG Mobility has now teased yet another pickup model, one that emphasizes a more rugged and aggressive character. Internally referred to as the Q300, this new truck is widely expected to serve as the successor to the Rexton Sports, a model that is marketed in many global markets under the Musso badge. Initially previewed earlier in the year through design sketches, the Q300 has now been shown more clearly in teaser video footage, offering a glimpse of its exterior styling direction.
At the front, the Q300 incorporates bold LED headlights whose design appears to draw influence from major competitors such as the Ford F-150 and the BYD Shark. Adding a unique touch, the front fascia features a Jeep-inspired five-slot grille, with illuminated inserts that bring a more dramatic visual signature. The bumper is particularly substantial, equipped with a large intake section that reinforces the truck’s off-road-ready stance. Moving to the profile, the vehicle retains body cladding with built-in amber indicators, similar to the design cues seen on the Musso EV. However, a noticeably longer bed hints at a stretched rear overhang, suggesting improved practicality. The upper body, including the greenhouse, roof rails, and pillars, seems to be carried over from the existing Rexton Sports. At the rear, the design becomes more modern, with slender vertical LED taillights framing a sculpted tailgate prominently embossed with KGM branding.
Although the manufacturer has yet to reveal the interior, industry expectations point to a digital cockpit layout combined with a five-seat configuration, consistent with its double-cab body style. The current version of the Rexton Sports / Musso, introduced in 2018 and refreshed in 2023, utilizes a ladder-frame chassis also shared with the Rexton SUV. It is powered by traditional gasoline and diesel engines, without electrification. The upcoming Q300 is likely to maintain an evolved form of this robust platform, but this time it may debut with the addition of a hybrid option to appeal to changing customer demands and stricter emissions standards.
Based on the teaser campaign, the official unveiling could take place within the next few months, with a commercial launch projected for 2026. Importantly, KG Mobility does not plan to limit this truck to the Korean market. Instead, it is expected to be introduced in key international markets such as Europe, the United Kingdom, and Australia. This would place it in direct competition with well-established rivals including the Ford Ranger, Toyota Hilux, Nissan Navara, Isuzu D-Max, and, of course, Kia’s own Tasman. With its modern styling, potential electrified powertrain options, and an emphasis on durability, the Q300 aims to position KG Mobility as a serious contender in the highly competitive midsize pickup category.
