Chery is expanding its compact SUV lineup with the introduction of a new model known as the Tiggo 5 Pro, which will join the existing Tiggo 5 family. This newly developed vehicle is powered exclusively by a gasoline engine and brings a noticeably different design approach compared to its siblings. One of the most striking elements of the Tiggo 5 Pro is its closed-off front fascia, a feature more commonly associated with electric vehicles rather than traditional internal combustion models. Under the hood, the SUV is equipped with a turbocharged 1.5-liter engine, reinforcing its position as a modern yet conventional gasoline-powered offering.
From a styling perspective, the Tiggo 5 Pro showcases Chery’s latest design language, emphasizing sharp lines and a bold, futuristic appearance. The front end features a fully closed surface with angular detailing, complemented by slim, elongated headlights that give the SUV a focused and aggressive expression. At the center of the front fascia sits a narrow rectangular grille element, while a larger polygon-shaped intake occupies the lower section of the bumper. This unconventional combination helps the Tiggo 5 Pro stand out in a crowded segment, particularly given its decision to adopt a closed front face despite relying on a combustion engine.
Moving to the rear, the design remains distinctive. The taillights are integrated with the “CHERY” lettering spelled out across the tailgate, reinforcing brand identity. A prominent roof-mounted spoiler adds a sporty touch while also contributing to aerodynamic efficiency. Viewed from the side, the Tiggo 5 Pro presents a dynamic profile, with the roofline beginning to slope downward from the B-pillar toward the rear, creating a more streamlined silhouette. Traditional door handles are retained rather than flush-mounted units, emphasizing practicality over trend-driven styling. The vehicle rides on 215/60R17 tires, which balance comfort, grip, and efficiency for everyday driving.
In terms of size, the Tiggo 5 Pro positions itself above the existing Tiggo 5x variants currently available in the Chinese market. At present, the Tiggo 5 series includes two versions of the Tiggo 5x, measuring 4400/1830/1588 mm and 4358/1830/1670 mm in length, width, and height, respectively. Both models share the same 2630 mm wheelbase. By comparison, the Tiggo 5 Pro is noticeably larger, stretching to 4540 mm in length and 1835 mm in width, while maintaining a height of 1588 mm. Despite its increased footprint, the wheelbase remains unchanged at 2630 mm, suggesting that the additional length primarily benefits exterior proportions and cargo space rather than rear passenger legroom.
Powering the Tiggo 5 Pro is Chery’s in-house 1.5-liter turbocharged engine, identified by the code SQRE4T15C. This unit delivers a maximum output of 154 horsepower and is rated with a fuel consumption figure of 7.29 liters per 100 kilometers. The SUV has a top speed of 180 km/h, placing it competitively within the compact SUV category. For context, the current Tiggo 5x models are available with either a turbocharged 1.5-liter engine producing 115 kW or a naturally aspirated 1.5-liter engine generating 118 horsepower.
It is also worth noting the strong market performance of the Tiggo 5 lineup. Earlier this year, in March, Chery announced that cumulative global sales of the Tiggo 5x had surpassed one million units since the model’s debut in 2017. This milestone underscores the popularity and global appeal of the Tiggo 5 series, providing a solid foundation for the launch of the new Tiggo 5 Pro.
