More Than Matte Black: Supra Final Edition Tweaks Performance

Author: |

Toyota, known for its dedication to celebrating its sports car legacy, is preparing to bid farewell to the A90 generation of the GR Supra with the introduction of a Final Edition for the 2026 model year in the United States. This special edition, while carrying the same moniker as its European and Japanese counterparts, presents a more subdued package of enhancements, focusing on subtle refinements rather than a dramatic power surge. While overseas markets received a significantly boosted version, American consumers will experience a more nuanced approach to the Supra's farewell.

The US-bound GR Supra MkV Final Edition, like its international siblings, showcases a striking matte black exterior complemented by eye-catching red accents, notably on the brake calipers. Toyota’s engineering team has also turned its attention to optimizing the vehicle’s aerodynamic profile, incorporating a carbon fiber lip spoiler at the rear, redesigned flaps for the front wheel arches, and prominent front tire spats. However, a key distinction from the European and Japanese models is the absence of a fixed rear spoiler, a feature that contributes to the more aggressive styling of those versions.

In terms of mechanical updates, the US Final Edition receives a series of carefully calibrated suspension adjustments. Toyota has recalibrated the electronically controlled shock absorbers and introduced a new front stabilizer bar.

Furthermore, the rubber bushings in the front control arms have been fortified, and new rubber mounts have been implemented for the rear sub-frame. These enhancements are designed to improve handling dynamics, with the MkV Final Edition promising a reduction in understeer, achieved through revisions to the differential and an optimized power steering system. Additionally, larger Brembo rotors are intended to enhance braking performance. For those seeking a more race-inspired aesthetic, an optional GT4-style appearance package is available, drawing inspiration from the Supra GT4 EVO2 race car. This package includes GR graphics on the sides, a matte carbon rear spoiler, a matte black Supra emblem, and red mirror caps. Interior modifications are relatively minimal, focusing on subtle refinements such as red stitching and red highlights, along with seats upholstered in a combination of leather and Alcantara.

Toyota has yet to disclose pricing details for this special edition of the Supra. However, it is confirmed that the US model will retain the standard 3.0-liter turbocharged six-cylinder engine, delivering 382 horsepower and 499 Nm of torque. While this powertrain offers ample performance, it falls short of the significantly more potent versions offered in Europe and Japan, which boast 429 horsepower and 570 Nm of torque.

Alongside the Final Edition, the 2026 model year Supra lineup will include the standard GR Supra 3.0 and 3.0 Premium trims. Customers will have a selection of exterior colors to choose from, including Stratosphere, Absolute Zero, Nocturnal, and Renaissance Red 2.0. Inside, the base model will feature a 10-speaker audio system, while the Premium trim will be equipped with a 12-speaker JBL audio system. This balanced approach to performance and luxury ensures that the Supra continues to cater to a diverse range of enthusiasts in its final model year.
