MG Expands Cyber Series with Stylish New GTS

The MG Cyberster, which first debuted in 2023, is already receiving significant updates as part of its 2026 model year refresh in China. Spearheaded by MG’s parent company SAIC, the latest developments include not just enhancements to the existing electric roadster, but also the introduction of an exciting new variant: the MG Cyber GTS, a fixed-roof coupe. This addition marks a key expansion in the Cyberster lineup and brings a touch of classic British coupe heritage into the electric vehicle space.

Visually, the MG Cyber GTS remains faithful to the design language of the Cyber GTS concept that made waves at the 2023 Goodwood Festival of Speed. While the production version will forgo the concept's showy alloy wheels in favor of more practical ones, the coupe will largely retain its sleek and aggressive styling. Sharing most of its body panels with the roadster, the Cyber GTS distinguishes itself with a fixed roofline and a redesigned rear end, creating a more aerodynamic and coupe-like silhouette. Its roof design and proportions are reminiscent of the now-discontinued Jaguar F-Type, helping to continue the legacy of stylish British performance coupes—albeit now in electric form.

The shift to a fixed roof not only enhances the vehicle's visual appeal but also brings practical benefits. The Cyber GTS will feature a 2+2 seating layout, making it slightly more versatile than the two-seat convertible version. Without the convertible roof mechanism, there's additional interior room, making the coupe more suitable for occasional rear passengers or extra cargo.

According to Jozef Kaban, MG’s chief designer, the decision to move forward with the Cyber GTS was heavily influenced by the overwhelmingly positive feedback received when the concept was unveiled. Industry insiders suggest that the coupe may launch as early as October 2025, potentially to align with the 60th anniversary of the iconic MG B GT—a fitting tribute that ties MG’s history to its electric future.

In addition to the coupe’s debut, the Cyberster roadster is receiving incremental updates for 2026. While the core design remains intact, the color range is being expanded with the addition of Iris Green and Andes Gray. A new Cyberster Black Edition will also be introduced, featuring unique alloy wheels. The interior sees upgraded upholstery options, including black/red and gray/white combinations. Furthermore, both driver and passenger will benefit from newly added electric lumbar support, while a revised wind deflector and an enhanced voice recognition system improve usability and comfort.

Mechanical improvements are also on the way. According to Chinese media outlet Autohome, the 2026 Cyberster will undergo chassis retuning and receive battery performance enhancements, although MG has not yet announced any updates to the electric motor configurations or battery sizes. For reference, the current Cyberster offers a 335 hp RWD variant and a more potent 536 hp AWD model, powered by either a 64kWh or 77kWh battery pack.

With both the coupe and upgraded roadster on the horizon, MG is positioning itself to strengthen its presence in the electric performance car segment. The upcoming CyberX electric SUV is also in the pipeline, signaling that MG’s “Cyber” lineup is set for further expansion in the coming years. As the 2026 launch approaches, more details are expected to emerge, building anticipation for MG’s next chapter in electrified performance.
