MG has introduced a more affordable variant of its electric sports car, the MG Cyberster, now available in Australia. This new version brings the entry price below the $100,000 mark for the first time, making the model more accessible to a broader audience. The newly released rear-wheel-drive (RWD) Cyberster, powered by a single electric motor and a 77kWh battery, joins the already available all-wheel-drive (AWD) variant in the lineup. Priced from $99,900 before on-road costs, the RWD version comes in at $15,100 less than its AWD sibling, while still retaining a high level of equipment and performance features.
Despite being more affordable, the RWD Cyberster remains generously equipped. It shares the same 77kWh battery pack as the AWD version but delivers better driving range, offering up to 552km (NEDC) compared to the 500km range of the AWD model. This increase in efficiency makes the RWD variant more practical for those who prioritize distance over outright performance.
In terms of power, the RWD model produces 250kW and 475Nm from its single electric motor. While that’s a downgrade from the AWD’s 375kW and 725Nm, the performance remains respectable, with the RWD sprinting from 0 to 100km/h in 5.2 seconds. This is two seconds slower than the AWD’s impressive 3.2-second time, but still quick enough for most drivers seeking a sporty EV experience.
Notable differences between the two variants include slightly smaller wheels—the RWD rolls on wheels that are one inch smaller than the AWD’s 20-inch set—and Nappa leather upholstery, which is standard on the new RWD model. In terms of design and features, the RWD Cyberster retains the brand’s dramatic styling cues, including Lamborghini-style scissor doors, a power-folding soft-top roof, and Brembo front brakes. It also comes equipped with a 10.25-inch infotainment screen, ensuring modern tech remains at the driver’s fingertips.
Charging performance remains unchanged, with both models supporting DC fast charging up to 144kW, allowing a 10–80% charge in approximately 40 minutes. A new exterior color, Mayfair Blue, is now available across the Cyberster range, adding to the personalization options for buyers.
According to VFACTS sales data, MG has sold 19 units of the Cyberster in Australia so far in 2025. With the RWD variant now available across MG dealerships nationwide, the brand is poised to appeal to more electric sports car enthusiasts by combining style, efficiency, and value under the $100K threshold.
