Mercedes-Benz Australia has reduced the starting price of its C-Class sedan by $4800, bringing the new entry-level cost down to $87,800. This price adjustment was achieved by shifting certain features to the optional extras list. Previously, the C200 model was priced at $92,600 and came standard with 19-inch AMG two-tone multi-spoke wheels and rear privacy glass. However, in its updated form, the base C200 now comes fitted with 18-inch single-colour AMG wheels instead.
Customers who wish to retain the previously standard 19-inch wheels and privacy glass can still do so by selecting the optional Design Package, which is available for an additional $1800.
Despite the changes to the standard features, the powertrain remains unchanged. The C200 continues to be equipped with a 1.5-litre turbocharged four-cylinder petrol engine, capable of producing 201 horsepower and 300 Newton-metres of torque. Additionally, the vehicle features a 48-volt mild-hybrid system that can momentarily provide an extra 20 horsepower and 200 Newton-metres of torque in specific driving conditions.
Power is delivered to the rear wheels via a nine-speed automatic transmission, ensuring smooth acceleration and performance. Fuel consumption remains consistent with the previous model, rated at 6.9 litres per 100 kilometres, making it an efficient option within the luxury sedan segment.
Despite the price reduction, Mercedes-Benz has retained a comprehensive list of standard features carried over from last year’s model. The C200 continues to offer Artico synthetic leather upholstery, heated and power-adjustable front seats, dual-zone climate control, interior ambient lighting, and a wireless smartphone charging pad. The cabin is further enhanced by a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster, paired with an 11.9-inch vertically oriented infotainment touchscreen. This system supports Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, built-in satellite navigation, and digital radio, providing a seamless and modern in-car experience.
Safety remains a key focus for Mercedes-Benz, with the C200 continuing to include an extensive suite of advanced driver assistance systems. These features include autonomous emergency braking (AEB) with pedestrian and cyclist detection, adaptive cruise control, lane-keeping assist, blind-spot monitoring, traffic sign recognition, and a 360-degree surround-view camera system.
With its revised pricing strategy, the C200 offers a more accessible entry point into the Mercedes-Benz C-Class range while still delivering a high level of luxury, technology, and safety. By allowing customers to personalize their vehicles with optional packages, Mercedes-Benz provides greater flexibility in configuring the C200 to individual preferences.
