Maserati Recalls Ghibli and Quattroporte Addressing Fuel Leak

Author: |

A potential fuel leakage issue affecting 58 vehicles in the United States, specifically the 2021-2022 Ghibli and Quattroporte models, has prompted a recall. The source of the leakage is traced back to the fuel line sensor, which may have undergone improper molding.

Maserati became aware of this concern on October 6, 2023, following a warranty claim related to the engine bay fuel bundle of a vehicle. Subsequently, on December 8, another claim pertaining to the same issue was reported, prompting the automaker to initiate an internal investigation.

Over the subsequent four-month period, Maserati delved into the matter to assess potential ramifications and identify the underlying cause. It was determined that the fuel line sensors in 28 Ghiblis and 30 Quattroportes from the 2021-2022 model years could potentially develop leaks.

The prospect of fuel leakage poses significant hazards, as it could potentially lead to a fire upon contact with a sufficiently hot ignition source. Furthermore, such leaks have the potential to cause engine malfunctions.

In instances of rapid leakage, fuel starvation may occur, resulting in a loss of vehicle propulsion. Such unexpected occurrences could create hazardous driving scenarios, thereby elevating the risk of accidents.

Thankfully, Maserati has not received reports of injuries or accidents arising from the fuel line issue. Nevertheless, it urges drivers to remain vigilant for signs such as the odor of gasoline or diminished engine performance, which may indicate a sensor leakage.

Affected vehicle owners are advised to anticipate correspondence from Maserati, notifying them to bring their vehicles to a nearby dealership for the replacement of the fuel line sensor housing. The replacement component will be appropriately molded to prevent leakage, and the installation will be performed at no cost to the owner.
