The Lexus LC was once thought to be nearing the end of its production life, but it is making a comeback for the 2026 model year with some notable updates. Among the most significant changes is the discontinuation of the hybrid variant. Lexus has decided to remove the LC 500h from the lineup, which previously offered an alternative for drivers seeking a balance between performance and efficiency.
The LC 500h hybrid was powered by a 3.5-liter V6 engine combined with two electric motors and a compact lithium-ion battery. This setup produced a total system output of 354 horsepower. Although the power figure wasn’t overwhelming, the hybrid coupe delivered respectable performance. It could accelerate from 0 to 96 km/h in 4.7 seconds and reached a top speed of approximately 250 km/h. Its fuel economy was also impressive for a luxury coupe, offering 26 mpg in the city, 33 mpg on the highway, and a combined rating of 29 mpg.
By comparison, the LC 500 that remains in the lineup is equipped with a naturally aspirated 5.0-liter V8 engine. This powerful engine produces 471 horsepower and 539 Nm of torque, mated to a ten-speed automatic transmission. With this setup, the V8 model can sprint from 0 to 96 km/h in just 4.4 seconds and achieves a higher top speed of 270 km/h. While the performance is clearly superior to that of the hybrid version, the V8 is less efficient, delivering 16 mpg in the city, 24 mpg on the highway, and a combined 18 mpg.
Another exciting update for 2026 is the return of the limited-run Inspiration Series. The coupe variant in this special edition sports a Smoke Matte Gray exterior, a carbon fiber roof, and sleek 21-inch forged alloy wheels finished in matte black. Additional design elements include black trim pieces, tinted lights, canards, red brake calipers, and a bold carbon fiber rear wing. The model is also fitted with active rear steering for enhanced handling.
Inside, the coupe features a stylish black and white theme, sport seats, unique sill plates, and a serialized badge marking each unit. Standard equipment includes a heated steering wheel, a head-up display, and a premium Mark Levinson audio system.
Only 200 units of the Inspiration Series coupe will be available in North America, alongside 350 roadster variants. The roadster shares much of the coupe’s DNA but comes with a Wind exterior color, a two-tone brown and silver soft top, a limited-slip differential, and Lexus’ Climate Concierge system that includes upper-body heating.
The updated LC 500 Coupe and Convertible are expected to hit U.S. dealerships in the fall of 2025. Pricing starts at $101,700 for the coupe and goes up to $109,200 for the convertible, both figures including a $1,450 destination charge.
