In Shanghai, the GAC Empow R made its debut with a new body kit and a more powerful turbocharged 2.0-liter engine. The February-founded ABT China joint venture just showcased its first kit at the Shanghai Auto Show. The package, which signifies ABT's introduction into the Chinese market, is meant for the GAC Empow.
The GAC Empow R, a version of the four-door sedan offered in China under the Trumpchi brand, is geared toward performance. ABT has upgraded this model, making it the first time the German tuner has provided modifications for a Chinese car.
The modern design of the GAC Empow R combines elegance and functionality. The vehicle has a sleek, aerodynamic body that lessens wind resistance and increases energy efficiency. The car's front has a unique grille that gives it an aggressive appearance, and the LED headlights offer superb road visibility. Additionally, the Empow R has a panoramic sunroof that lets daylight into the interior, giving it a light and airy appearance.
The GAC Empow R x ABT features a splitter with built-in fins, a unique grille, and bumper intakes. The new 19-inch alloy wheels are highlighted in the side profile, which also shows off matching side skirts and fender flares.
The Empow R x ABT's exterior features a black color scheme with red highlights, while ABT maintained the theme inside the cabin with black upholstery and red accents. New seat coverings, LED sill plates, and the ABT symbol on the headrests, center armrest, and floor mats are the only interior improvements made by ABT. The digital cockpit of the Empow R already has distinctive graphics and the R logo on its bucket seats with built-in headrests.
The Chinese model comes standard with a 1.5-liter turbocharged engine that produces 168 horsepower and 270 Nm of torque. The new GAC Empow R, on the other hand, is equipped with a more potent 2.0-liter turbocharged engine that produces a commendable 265 hp and 400 Nm of torque. The vehicle has a 5.7-second 0–100 km/h sprint time.
The Empow R, which is equipped with an eight-speed automatic transmission and paddle shifters to send power to the front wheels, and the ABT version both have similar performance stats.
ABT China did not provide pricing information for the tuning package, although the base GAC Empow is priced between $14,260 and $18,845.
