These dark-themed vehicles exude a certain allure and sophistication, appealing to those who appreciate a unique, stylish ride. Mitsubishi has tapped into this enduring trend with its latest offering, the Triton Black Edition pickup truck, a vehicle that promises to stand out with its bold, midnight-inspired features.
It’s common practice for car manufacturers to release special dark-themed trims towards the end of a vehicle’s production run. However, Mitsubishi has taken a different approach with the Triton Black Edition, presenting this model earlier in the vehicle’s lifecycle. This new variant sets itself apart from the Ultra trim, upon which it is based, by featuring a front grille and Dynamic Shield design both finished in a sleek gloss black.
Under the hood, the Black Edition is powered by a mid-range version of Mitsubishi’s 2.4-liter turbodiesel engine. This engine generates 181 horsepower and delivers 430 Nm of torque. The Black Edition comes solely with a 6-speed automatic transmission paired with rear-wheel drive. Unfortunately for off-road enthusiasts who desire the blacked-out aesthetic, this edition does not include the four-wheel-drive systems that are available on other trims, such as the high-end Athlete model.
The black theme of this special edition is not limited to its grille. The mirror caps, door handles, tailgate handle, and 18-inch alloy wheels are all finished in black, creating a cohesive, dark appearance. To break up the monochromatic scheme, Mitsubishi's designers have added smoked titanium accents to the side steps and rear bumper, giving the truck a distinctive edge. The Black Edition is available in two striking colors: Graphite Grey and White Diamond.
The interior of the Black Edition continues the dark theme with a predominantly black cabin, highlighted by contrasting white stitching on the seats and other surfaces. However, the inclusion of a light-colored headliner does somewhat disrupt the overall dark ambiance. Standard features of the Triton Black Edition include a 9-inch infotainment system and a comprehensive suite of advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS), ensuring a modern and safe driving experience.
Currently, the Mitsubishi Triton Black Edition is available exclusively in Thailand, where it is priced starting at 1,027,000 Thai Baht (approximately $28,409). Although it is now limited to the Thai market, there is potential for this special edition to be introduced to other regions, expanding the global lineup of the Triton/L200 series in the near future. This strategic release by Mitsubishi indicates a keen awareness of market trends and consumer preferences, positioning the Triton Black Edition as a desirable option for those seeking both style and performance in their pickup truck.
