Nammi, a sub-brand under Chinese automotive giant Dongfeng, is focused on delivering small, budget-friendly electric vehicles aimed at urban drivers. Despite its affordable pricing and compact vehicle lineup, the brand has struggled to gain significant traction in China’s highly competitive EV market. In the first quarter of 2025, Nammi recorded sales of just 9,514 units. Currently, its lineup consists of three models: the Nammi 01, Nammi Box, and Nammi EX1. However, Dongfeng is not standing still. In an effort to reinvigorate the brand, Nammi introduced a new model—the Nammi 06—on April 28, opening presales for the electric crossover, which is designed to challenge the BYD Yuan Up (also known internationally as the Atto 2) in both domestic and future international markets.
The Nammi 06 is built on Dongfeng’s Quantum Architecture 3 platform and is engineered as a compact crossover SUV. It features a clean, minimalist front design without a traditional grille. Instead, the front is characterized by distinctive T-shaped headlights connected by a sleek LED light bar, while the bumper sports a subtle air intake with horizontal slats. Although aimed at urban drivers, the Nammi 06 has rugged design elements like pronounced plastic body cladding, large wheel arches, and flush-fitting door handles, lending it a robust look.
One of the model’s most striking exterior features is its two-piece tailgate, a rarity in the compact SUV segment. The lower part of the tailgate is designed to support up to 150 kg, which adds practical utility. The rear of the vehicle also features vertically stacked taillights connected by another LED strip, continuing the futuristic aesthetic. In terms of size, the Nammi 06 measures 4,306 mm in length, 1,868 mm in width, and 1,645 mm in height, with a wheelbase of 2,715 mm—slightly more compact in length but wider and taller than its BYD rival. It offers a generous 500 liters of trunk capacity and rides on 17-inch alloy wheels.
Inside, the Nammi 06 features a clean, modern interior. The centerpiece is a 12.8-inch touchscreen display for infotainment, paired with an 8.8-inch digital instrument cluster. A two-spoke oval-shaped steering wheel houses the gear shifter behind it. The center tunnel includes a hidden storage compartment and a wireless charging pad. Higher trims come equipped with six speakers, as well as premium amenities such as heated, ventilated, and massaging seats.
Under the hood, or rather beneath the floor, the Nammi 06 is powered by a single front-mounted electric motor producing 181 horsepower. It is available with two battery options: a 44.94 kWh lithium iron phosphate (LFP) battery offering a range of 401 km under the CLTC cycle, and a larger 51.87 kWh LFP battery extending the range to 471 km. These figures outpace the BYD Yuan Up's 94 hp motor and 45.12 kWh battery, which delivers a comparable 401 km range. The Nammi 06 also supports fast charging, with the ability to charge from 30% to 80% in just 18 minutes.
Customers can choose from five trim levels, with prices ranging from approximately \$12,320 to \$16,435. In comparison, the BYD Yuan Up is priced between \$13,700 and \$16,435, excluding promotional discounts. Official sales of the Nammi 06 in China are scheduled to begin in the second quarter of 2025. With its attractive pricing, modern design, and competitive specs, the Nammi 06 presents a compelling option in the compact electric SUV market and may help Nammi carve out a stronger presence both in China and abroad.
