BYD has officially unveiled the Sealion 05 DM-i, a new plug-in hybrid crossover that is set to join the Chinese market soon. This model is closely related to the Song Pro DM-i and features the same 5-gen DM powertrain and a 93 km electric range.
The Sealion 05 DM-i is part of the newly formed Sealion series, which includes both all-electric and plug-in hybrid crossovers. The Sealion 07 EV was the first model to be introduced under this series.
The Sealion 05 DM-i adopts the design language of BYD's Ocean Series, featuring a prominent frameless grille and elongated rectangular headlamps. The front bumper incorporates a large air intake for engine cooling, and the SUV has plastic trim around the lower body and traditional door handles.
From the side, the Sealion 05 DM-i showcases a suspended roof design with blackened D-pillars. The rear end features a single LED taillight bar and a minimalist bumper. While based on the Song Pro DM-i, the Sealion 05 DM-i has a slightly shorter overall length.
The Sealion 05 DM-i rides on R19 wheels with Chaoyang tires in official images, but it will also be available with R17 and R18 wheel options. The SUV has dimensions of 4710/1880/1720 mm with a wheelbase of 2712 mm.
Under the hood, the Sealion 05 DM-i is equipped with the 5-gen BYD DM-i plug-in hybrid system. This system combines a 1.5-liter naturally aspirated engine with an electric motor, delivering a total power output of 260 horsepower. The same electric motor is used in the BYD Qin L sedan.
The Sealion 05 DM-i offers LFP batteries from BYD's subsidiary, FinDreams, with a capacity of 18.3 kWh. In pure electric mode, the SUV can travel up to 93 km on a single charge (CLTC). Its fuel consumption is rated at 4.9 L/100km, and its combined range is expected to reach 2,000 km.
While the exact price range for the Sealion 05 DM-i has not been disclosed, it is anticipated to enter the Chinese market in the near future.
