SAIC-GM Buick has officially introduced the Electra L7, a mid-to-large sedan that represents the debut model of Buick’s newly established high-end new energy sub-brand. This launch is a significant milestone for the automaker as it marks the beginning of a dedicated push into the premium new energy vehicle market. The Electra L7 comes with a starting price of 173,900 yuan (around $23,800), though for a limited period, early buyers can take advantage of an introductory offer that reduces the base cost to 169,900 yuan (approximately $23,200).
The exterior styling of the Electra L7 takes direct inspiration from the Buick Electra-L concept, adopting a futuristic and streamlined appearance. At the front, the sedan features a closed fascia design paired with distinct L-shaped headlights, giving it a modern and aggressive character. The lower bumper integrates an active grille to enhance aerodynamics and efficiency. Higher-spec trims, particularly the Avenir edition, introduce more upscale touches such as bespoke 19-inch alloy wheels, tail lamps with a flowing-light effect, and unique Avenir branding. Dimensionally, the L7 is a sizable vehicle at 5,032 mm long, 1,952 mm wide, and 1,500 mm tall, supported by a generous 3,000 mm wheelbase. It adopts frameless doors and flush-fitting hidden door handles, which highlight its modern premium appeal. Buyers can select from five exterior colors—black, grey, white, gold, and purple—with certain shades available as optional extras.
Stepping inside, the cabin follows a high-tech and refined design philosophy. A floating dual-screen setup dominates the dashboard, consisting of a 10.25-inch digital gauge cluster and a 15.6-inch central infotainment screen. More advanced variants add a 50-inch augmented reality head-up display (AR-HUD) to project key driving information. Customers can also choose from four interior color themes, with the Avenir trim receiving an exclusive purple-and-white combination to emphasize its luxury positioning.
On the technology side, the sedan features Buick’s “Xiaoyao Intelligent Drive” system, powered by the Momenta R6 platform. It comes equipped with lidar, multiple millimeter-wave radars, and high-definition cameras, enabling functions such as intelligent navigation in urban and highway conditions, automated parking, and even remote parking capability. The Avenir edition further elevates comfort with premium touches like a 27-speaker Buick Sound Theatre audio system with integrated headrest speakers, Nappa leather seats featuring zero-gravity ergonomics, and exclusive decorative accents that set it apart from lower trims.
Performance-wise, the Electra L7 relies on a 1.5T engine functioning as a range extender, which supports an electric motor delivering up to 252 kW of power. This configuration allows the car to sprint from 0 to 100 km/h in just 5.9 seconds and achieve a top speed of 200 km/h. The battery is a 40.2 kWh lithium iron phosphate pack, offering a CLTC-rated electric-only driving range of 302 km. When combining electric and range-extending power, the vehicle boasts an impressive maximum driving range of 1,420 km. Practicality is enhanced further with a 6 kW vehicle-to-load (V2L) power supply function, enabling the L7 to provide external electricity for various uses.
As Buick’s first new energy flagship under the Electra lineup, the L7 sets the stage for a growing product family. The company has already confirmed that more vehicles will follow soon, including a new energy multi-purpose vehicle (MPV) and an SUV, both of which are intended to broaden the sub-brand’s reach and strengthen its presence in the competitive Chinese EV and extended-range market.
