BMW Reveals Fan-Designed Special Editions for South Korea Only

BMW is preparing to roll out a very limited run of special-edition vehicles that draw direct inspiration from a fan-driven design competition, but enthusiasts in the United States will unfortunately miss out. The exclusive models—based on the M5, M2, X5, and X3—will be produced in extremely small numbers and sold only in South Korea, the market where the contest was held and where the winning designs originated.

BMW Special Editions

Earlier this year, BMW launched a campaign titled “Create Your Own BMW Edition,” inviting fans to take part in shaping future special models. Participants were asked to vote for their favorite concepts from a shortlist of five proposed designs. One particular entry quickly rose to prominence: a striking BMW M5 finished in Fire Orange. The bold color clearly resonated with voters, generating enough enthusiasm that BMW decided to turn the concept into reality. As a result, the automaker has committed to building just five examples of this Fire Orange M5, each carrying an estimated starting price of around $127,000.

The Fire Orange finish is not a new experiment for BMW’s M division. In fact, the color carries a strong performance heritage, having previously appeared on limited and highly regarded models such as the BMW M3 GTS and the U.S.-exclusive M3 Lime Rock Park Edition. By reviving this vivid shade, BMW is tapping into its motorsport-inspired past while giving South Korean buyers something genuinely special and collectible.

Beyond the eye-catching exterior, the South Korea–bound M5s will arrive loaded with premium and performance-focused equipment. Standard features include the high-end Bowers & Wilkins sound system, carbon-ceramic brakes for enhanced stopping power, and the M Driver’s Package, which unlocks higher performance capabilities. Inside the cabin, the theme continues with Kyalami Orange leather trim, chosen specifically to complement and echo the dramatic exterior paintwork.

The fan contest also resulted in the approval of two distinctive BMW M2 Coupes. One version will be finished in Voodoo Blue, while the other wears a Frozen Portimao Blue matte finish. Production numbers will be equally exclusive, with BMW building only five units of the Frozen Portimao Blue M2 and ten units of the Voodoo Blue variant. Both models receive a range of performance and styling enhancements, including staggered wheels measuring 19 inches at the front and 20 inches at the rear, an M carbon fiber front lip spoiler, and carbon mirror caps that reinforce their motorsport character.

Inside, the M2 special editions continue to emphasize lightweight materials and a track-focused atmosphere. Buyers will find M carbon bucket seats, an Alcantara-trimmed steering wheel, and generous use of carbon fiber throughout the cabin. Pricing for these limited-run coupes starts at approximately $70,500 for the Frozen Portimao Blue model, while the Voodoo Blue version is slightly more affordable at around $69,300 due to its standard metallic paint finish.

Rounding out the contest winners are two more understated special editions. These include an X5 xDrive40i M Sport finished in Dravit Grey and an X3 20 xDrive dressed in Dune Grey. Unlike the M cars, these SUVs do not receive dramatic visual upgrades beyond their exclusive paint colors. Even so, BMW will restrict production of each SUV to just 30 units, ensuring that all four fan-inspired models remain rare and highly exclusive offerings for the South Korean market.
