2026 Kia Stonic Arrives in Australia

Author: |

Kia has released an updated version of its smallest SUV in Australia, the 2026 Stonic, which is now available in showrooms with refreshed styling, enhanced technology, and the addition of a 48-volt mild-hybrid system. These updates are designed to improve both efficiency and driving experience. Pricing for the new Stonic has increased modestly compared to the previous model, with recommended retail prices rising between $2,020 and $3,260, while national drive-away prices are up between $2,100 and $3,400.

The entry-level Stonic S now starts from $28,180 before on-road costs, or $30,890 drive-away. This grade benefits from a series of upgrades, including larger alloy wheels, keyless entry, push-button start, multi-collision braking, an electronic parking brake, additional centre console storage, and a rear parcel shelf. Despite these enhancements, all Stonic variants continue to be powered by the same 1.0-litre turbocharged three-cylinder petrol engine, paired with a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission. For 2026, Kia has added a 48-volt mild-hybrid system that helps improve fuel efficiency and reduce CO₂ emissions, though it cannot drive the vehicle using electric power alone.

The mild-hybrid system also contributes to a power boost, raising peak output from 74 kW to 88 kW at 6,000 rpm, while torque remains at 172 Nm. Combined fuel consumption drops from 5.4 L/100 km to 5.0 L/100 km, and CO₂ emissions fall from 125 g/km to 116 g/km, assisted by an electric starter-generator that works alongside the petrol engine.

Higher trims, including the Stonic Sport and GT-Line, now feature a larger 12.3-inch infotainment touchscreen, up from eight inches previously, and include Kia Connect telematics. This allows for automatic emergency calls and the ability to control some vehicle functions remotely. These trims also support over-the-air software updates, though they run older infotainment software compared to larger Kia models such as the K4, Sportage, Sorento, and Tasman. Consequently, when using built-in satellite navigation, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are not supported, reverting to a wired connection.

The 2026 Stonic Sport adds further improvements over its 2025 predecessor, including black cloth and artificial leather upholstery, enhanced autonomous emergency braking with junction-turning detection, adaptive cruise control, and LED front fog lights. The GT-Line, priced from $35,740 RRP or $37,990 drive-away, receives additional upgrades, such as a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster, a heated steering wheel, configurable ambient lighting, and a wireless smartphone charger equipped with a cooling fan.

2026 Kia Stonic

Overall, the 2026 Kia Stonic combines more efficient performance with modern technology and added comfort features, making it a more compelling option in the subcompact SUV segment. It is now available for purchase at Kia dealerships across Australia.
