Mercedes-Benz unveiled the brand-new Citan for the 2022 model year. The 2022 Citan is offered in both Panel Van and Tourer configurations, expanding the company's light commercial vehicle lineup in Europe. In the company's commercial fleet, the Mercedes-Benz Citan sits below the bigger Vito and Sprinter models.
The 2017 Mercedes-Benz Citan makes its formal premiere after multiple spy picture appearances and a few teaser shots. The new Citan is built on the same platform as the Renault Kangoo.
The Citan, like the Kangoo, will be available in both freight and passenger variants, with a completely electric vehicle arriving next year. Mercedes-Benz will soon release a comparable T-Class and an electric version of the EQT.
The Mercedes-Benz Citan shares the same greenhouse and doors as the Renault Kangoo, but the front end has been totally changed. The front end has been updated with new headlights and a radiator grille. Although higher and more costly model levels will be fitted with LED headlights and taillights, the rear end is basic and straightforward.
The Citan had a length of 4,498 mm and a wheelbase of 2,716 mm. Mercedes is also contemplating long-wheelbase versions. The design focuses on functionality, with one or two sliding doors enabling a 615 mm openness. There are two asymmetrical 180-degree-angle doors at the back.

Standard features include Hill Start Assist and Active Brake Assist, as well as more complex ADAS like Blind Spot Assist, Active Lane Keeping Assist, and Active Distance Assist DISTRONIC, which allow for semi-autonomous driving under specific situations. The Citan Tourer comes standard with 7 airbags, whereas the Citan Panel Van has 6 airbags.
Customers will be able to choose options such as automatic temperature control, keyless entry, and start, and an electronic parking brake depending on the trim level.
The new Citan is offered with a diesel engine. The Citan is offered with two four-cylinder engines: a 1.5-liter diesel and 1.3-liter gasoline. The Citan 108 CDI has 74 horsepower and 230 Newton-meters of torque, the Citan 110 CDI has 94 horsepower and 260 Newton-meters of torque, and the Citan 112 CDI has 114 horsepower and 270 Newton-meters of torque. The Citan Tourer, however, only has the middle one. The Citan 110 petrol has 101 horsepower and 200 Nm of torque, while the Citan 113 diesel has 129 hp and 240 Nm of torque.
The new Citan will be available in Europe in mid-September, with pricing beginning at less than $27,981 in Europe. In addition to the Renault Kangoo, rival vehicles include the Citroen Berlingo, Peugeot Partner, Opel Combo, and Toyota ProAce City siblings, the Fiat Doblo, the VW Caddy, and the Ford Tourneo Connect.
