While VinFast vehicles remain a relatively rare sight on roads in the United States—largely because of the brand’s slow and somewhat underwhelming market introduction—they are a completely different story in Vietnam. In its home country, VinFast enjoys significant popularity, and its newest model, the Lạc Hồng 900 LX, is expected to strengthen that reputation even further. Developed jointly with renowned Canadian armored-vehicle specialist Inkas, this newly revealed model is designed for customers who need far more than ordinary comfort. It targets high-profile executives, security-conscious public figures, and government officials who require premium luxury paired with advanced ballistic protection.
The Lạc Hồng 900 LX is closely related to the existing VinFast VF 9, sharing much of its fundamental structure and styling. VinFast plans to sell the 900 LX in both a regular non-armored configuration and a heavily fortified armored variant produced by Inkas. The armored model is fully certified for legal road use in Vietnam and comes with a comprehensive protection rating. According to Inkas, the vehicle can withstand sustained rifle fire, including armor-piercing bullets. Beyond ballistic resistance, the company states that it has been engineered to survive the simultaneous explosion of two DM51 hand grenades, demonstrating a level of survivability far above that of typical armored SUVs. During testing, the vehicle reportedly endured 400 laser-guided rounds, reinforcing its capability as a secure transport solution. Notably, the armored version maintains nearly the same exterior appearance as the standard model, ensuring discretion for occupants who prefer not to draw attention.
Aesthetically, the 900 LX distinguishes itself from the shorter-wheelbase VF 9. It features a bespoke chrome front grille and numerous gold-finished accents, including the exterior door handles and a large gold hood ornament. These luxury design cues carry over into the cabin. Inside, the vehicle is trimmed with soft-touch leather surfaces, polished wood décor, and additional gold highlights, creating an interior ambience aimed at premium and VIP clientele.
There are also mechanical and performance differences between the regular Lạc Hồng 900 LX and the armored version. Both variants are equipped with a 123-kWh battery pack supplied by CATL, but their motors differ slightly. Reports from Vietnamese media indicate that the standard 900 LX uses a dual-motor system producing 402 horsepower and 620 Nm of torque, enabling the SUV to sprint from 0 to 100 km/h in around 6.8 seconds. The armored model receives more potent electric motors rated at 455 horsepower, although torque remains the same at 620 Nm. Even with the added power, the armored variant takes significantly longer—about 9.8 seconds to reach 100 km/h—due to the substantial weight added by its protective components.
