Although the most recent Ford Expedition is not a completely new vehicle, Ford has announced two additional packages for the 2022 model year. The major reason for this choice is most likely a new competitor named the Jeep Wagoneer, which has received a lot of attention.
A tough Timberline trim joins the smaller Explorer for 2022. It features 10.6 inches of ground clearance, which Ford claims is better than the Wagoneer's 10 inches. The Expedition is also equipped with the underbody protection of the all-conquering F-150 Raptor and the Trail Turn Assist technology of the new Bronco. It features improved approach and departure angles and rides on massive 33-inch Goodyear Wrangler AT tires.
The Timberline is differentiated aesthetically by a distinctive front grille and orange exterior details.
The 2022 Expedition Timberline is driven by a 3.5-liter EcoBoost V6 engine that produces 440 horsepower and 692 Newton-meters of torque. As standard equipment, a two-speed transfer case is supplied.
Another significant addition is the Stealth Edition Performance Package. The Stealth Edition Performance Package is a sportier version of the full-size SUV, with a somewhat more aggressive appearance and a firmer suspension configuration. It, too, is powered by the same engine and is available in the Limited and Limited Max variants.
A variety of glossy black design details are added to the front grille, side mirror caps, and roof rails. The fog lamp bezels, roof rails, running boards, and the headlight and taillight housings are additionally darkened with the Stealth Edition Performance Package. It is outfitted with 22-inch black wheels and red brake calipers.
Ford's BlueCruise hands-free highway driving technology, as well as the SYNC 4 infotainment system with a 12-inch touchscreen, will be available in the 2022 Expedition. The latter can be added to a SYNC 4A configuration for an extra fee.
The redesigned Ford Expedition will go on sale in the first quarter of next year.
