The sunroof is controlled via a touch-capacitive button on the 2022 Golf R and GTI versions. Volkswagen is currently having issues as a result of its touch-capacitive buttons. The recall of 2,238 Golfs is the result of one in particular. According to the firm, the button is too sensitive and can accidentally activate.
As a result, the cars are in violation of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard 118, which is concerned with "power-operated window systems." The NHTSA warns that accidentally closing the sunroof may increase the chance of an accident.
Volkswagen will swap out the roof module switch with a new one to address this problem. Unfortunately for people who dislike touch capacitive buttons, they will be replaced with a part that is similar but has had the capacitive characteristics modified so that it won't accidentally trip. The manufacturer aims to begin contacting consumers on September 23. The patch will be executed without charge.
