Maserati Grecale Folgore Gets Smarter for 2026

Maserati may be facing sluggish sales, but the Italian automaker isn’t backing down—especially when it comes to its most successful SUV, the Grecale. For the 2026 model year, the brand has unveiled a range of updates designed to keep the SUV competitive, with the spotlight falling mainly on the fully electric Folgore version. The latest improvements give it a longer driving range and a wider array of customization options, both inside and out, aiming to enhance its appeal among luxury EV buyers.

Personalization has become a central theme in Maserati’s strategy for 2026. The exterior color selection now includes 11 standard paint options, complemented by 32 additional hues from the brand’s exclusive Fuoriserie Programme—six of which are brand-new. The interior is equally customizable, offering eight different color schemes, eight seat designs, four caliper finishes, and six distinct alloy wheel styles. One of these wheel designs is reserved solely for the Folgore trim, underscoring Maserati’s efforts to make the electric version stand out from the rest of the lineup.

While Maserati hasn’t disclosed the official pricing for the 2026 Grecale range, it’s unlikely that the figures will differ much from the previous model year. Given the brand’s ongoing struggle to boost sales, raising prices would be a risky move. Instead, Maserati seems to be focusing on adding value and enhancing the car’s technical features to attract more buyers without substantially increasing costs.

Maserati Grecale Folgore

The Grecale Folgore first hit the market in 2023, equipped with dual electric motors producing an impressive 550 horsepower and a 105 kWh battery offering 500 kilometers of WLTP range. For 2026, those numbers remain the same, but Maserati has added an innovative AWD-Disconnect system to improve efficiency. This system automatically disengages the front axle when all-wheel drive isn’t necessary, allowing the SUV to run in rear-wheel-drive mode. The result is a notable 80-kilometer boost in driving range, bringing the total to 580 kilometers per charge. The entire transition happens in just half a second and uses a mechanical disconnection at the hubs—an approach Maserati claims is more energy-efficient than cutting power at the motor or differential.

To determine when to switch between AWD and RWD, the system uses a combination of sensors and software that monitor various factors such as torque demand, road gradient, vehicle speed, braking temperature, outside temperature, and drive mode. This ensures the SUV maintains optimal traction and performance while conserving battery energy whenever possible.

In terms of performance, the Folgore sprints from 0 to 100 km/h in 4.1 seconds—just slightly slower than the high-performance V6 Trofeo variant, which completes the run in 3.8 seconds. However, the EV’s top speed is limited to 220 km/h, the lowest among the Grecale models.

Beyond powertrain upgrades, Maserati has refined the Folgore’s electric-specific features as well. It still offers remote climate control, automatic battery preconditioning, and EV Routing. The navigation system now adds a new “Dynamic Range Mapping” feature, which graphically displays the remaining travel distance based on current battery charge. Altogether, these upgrades signal Maserati’s determination to evolve its luxury EV lineup and keep the Grecale relevant in an increasingly competitive electric SUV market.
