2023 Lexus RZ Electric Crossover Teased

With the publication of a handful of teaser photographs and a brief film, Lexus has given us our second look at the upcoming RZ electric SUV. Just enough is visible to define a sleek, coupe-inspired form.

The RZ incorporates Lexus' signature spindle grille and L-shaped running lights, as shown in the teaser film. Large inlets may be found in the front end's lower corners. Because the door is longer than the bZ4X's, there may be a greater rear passenger room than in its blue-collar siblings. The rear taillights cover the whole width of the hatchback, and the top has a flat spoiler.

The RZ is the first Lexus to employ the e-TNGA electric vehicle platform, which was previously used by the Toyota bZ4X and Subaru Solterra twins.

Lexus hasn't revealed any mechanical details about the new RZ, but the LF-Z Electrified Concept included a 536-horsepower electric motor that gave it a projected 0-62-mph time of 3 seconds. The actual car is unlikely to be quite as powerful, but we're looking for more power than the bZ4X and Solterra, which have 201-hp single motor and 215-hp dual motor options.

An electric motor in each axle provides a total of 215 horsepower (160 kW) in the Toyota model's top variant. It has a battery pack with a capacity of 72.8 kilowatt-hours. The all-wheel-drive Subaru Solterra can cover roughly 220 miles on a charge from the 71.4 kWh battery, whereas Toyota hasn't provided a range estimate.

The RZ is expected to enter dealerships by the end of 2022.
