Autocar.com has reviewed the new Suzuki Vitara 1.5 full hybrid. This car has a bit of everything. It tried to keep some features from earlier models and add some EV items. Considering the new gearbox comparing to the previous ones (Honda CVT, or Renault’s four-speed dog 'box) used on this car, is not impressive at all. This company risked with a mild six-speed automated manual gearbox.
Before, this Japanese company introduced Suzuki Swace, which had some bounds with Toyota Corolla Touring Sport. But the 2022 hybrid one here is purely Suzuki’s work. However, maybe some helps from others would improve this vehicle. The mild-hybrid power is not convincing at all. The engine is the old model of 1.5-liter capacity which delivers 149 hp. 43 horsepower of this out put belongs to the electric motors.
The battery pack has capacity of 0.84kWh. its too small. By the SZ5 trim of this Vitara, having all drive function is possible. But maybe you should pass it. Gearbox is the problem. Suzuki used the technology which was dead by 2010s. upshifts act too slow. Also, don’t try to drive on electric for long time. The small battery is not capable of it. However, company added on option of Eco mode to improve power management.
By looking it its competitors, Toyota Yaris Cross or Renault Captur E-Tech have more success. Making the car full-hybrid means more money needed to buy it. You are saving nothing and your help to environment is not counted too.
Its worthy to mention, the interior can be the cheap designed or with paying some money have exclusive models. However, this car is still cheaper than Yaris Cross or Captur E-Tech. Don’t bother yourself, buy the old version of mild-hybrid.
